Not Yet Responsible Enough For Diamond Jewelry |

I have just read another contributor’s post in which she writes about buying diamond jewelry for her ten year old daughter’s birthday. I am raising my step-granddaughter and she turned eleven on her birthday back in October. I am not ready to buy her diamond jewelry just yet because she is not responsible enough with her things. Of course all girls are different and some are more responsible than others. There are some girls who know where each and every one of their possessions is at any given moment in time. However it all comes down to personality and my step-granddaughter Alisha is really very absent minded and flighty at the moment. I do not think she is ready for diamond jewelry. I will reconsider giving Alisha diamond jewelry when she turns sixteen but for now she will have to be content with cubic zirconia and silver. You see I wouldn’t be too terribly upset if she lost a pair of earrings that did not cost much money. However I would be very angry if she lost or misplaced her diamond earrings or loaned them out to a friend without asking permission. Alisha is a very strong willed girl. She is also kind and warm-hearted but if left unchecked she could easily become obnoxious. What’s more she is at that awkward pubescent stage where she thinks she has all the answers already. Raising her can be very challenging but nevertheless my husband and I make her earn every reward she gets. Alisha needs to prove that she can be trusted to behave responsibly and when she does I will gladly purchase diamond jewelry on her behalf.
